Speak Out for Engineering NUST,2018

The highly anticipated event of IMechE NUST Student Chapter, Speak Out for Engineering(SOfE) NUST 2018 was held at the School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering (SMME) of the National University of Sciences & Technology   on the 12 th of December. The organizing committee worked around the clock tirelessly to make sure that the event took place successfully. Students from all around NUST were invited to participate in this one of a kind competition. SOfE being a signature event of IMechE, challenges young engineers to hone their presentation skills in front of a panel of technical expert and presentation specialists . Each participant is given a time of 15 minutes to deliver the presentation effectively and then 5 further minutes to answer the questions raised by the judges panel. Webinar with Khuldoon Usman

The NUST Student Chapter of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) conducted a ‘Webinar’ session with Khuldoon Usman here at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME) on Wednesday, 31 st October. The topic under discussion was the prospect and the application process of a master’s program in Germany. Mr. Khuldoon Usman graduated from SMME, NUST in 2016 with bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering . He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Managemen t at the Technical University of Hamburg in Germany. Mr. Khuldoon Usman coordinated with the IMechE NSC to share his experience with the people of SMME in the hope that it equips them with the knowledge or skill to excel in the field they pursue. The video call session with Mr Khuldoon began at around 1pm in the SMME seminar hall. National Design Challenge 2018

The signature event of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the National Design Challenge was held at the National University of Sciences and Technology, NUST, Islamabad. Four teams from all over Pakistan competed to be crowned the National Champions. These four teams had earned the rights to compete at this stage of the competition by winning the rounds   held at their individual chapters. The chief guest for the competition was Dr. David Ball, Chairman Design Challenge of IMechE United Kingdom who came all the way from UK to attend the event. This year the students were required to construct an Internal Pipe Climbing Device. The device was to climb inside a transparent pipe of certain preset dimensions and return to the point of launch. The objective being to achieve this in the smallest time possible. Jibran Khalid Memorial SOfE Nationals 2018

This year’s Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE) Nationals was held at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME), NUST Islamabad. The national event was named in the memory of Jibran Khalid, who established the first student chapter of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in Pakistan. SOfE is a trademark event of IMechE which is conducted at various levels. Students first compete at their individual student chapters. The winners then qualify for the zonal level of the competition. The top three position holders from each zone then battle it out at the SOfE Nationals to secure a spot for the SOfE South Asia. Many esteemed guests from the industry as well as officials from IMechE Pakistan attended the event. Mr Waseem Bhatti, Head of Manufacturing and Maintenance at Millat Tractors Limited Islamabad was invited as the chief guest for the event. This year there were two separate heats.
