Speak Out for Engineering NUST,2018


The highly anticipated event of IMechE NUST Student Chapter, Speak Out for Engineering(SOfE) NUST 2018 was held at the School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering (SMME) of the National University of Sciences & Technology on the 12th of December. The organizing committee worked around the clock tirelessly to make sure that the event took place successfully. Students from all around NUST were invited to participate in this one of a kind competition.

SOfE being a signature event of IMechE, challenges young engineers to hone their presentation skills in front of a panel of technical expert and presentation specialists . Each participant is given a time of 15 minutes to deliver the presentation effectively and then 5 further minutes to answer the questions raised by the judges panel.


Thereby not only improving the presentation skills of the competitors but also their question handling ability. The competition is held at various levels; from individual chapters to international platforms.
After rigorous screening of several applications, a panel of experts chose 15 presenters for the main event. The event was held at the Conference room of SMME and the 8 hour event had rigorous presentation sessions. The first session commenced at about 10:30 am. At 1 pm the first session concluded and the judges were served lunch. The second session started after the break with yet again exciting and thought stimulating presentations from the contestants. The presentations were on a plethora of topics including projects or simply ideas. Junaid Ahmed aptly presented his ongoing final year project on ‘bipedal Hoping Robot’ while Saad Tahir excited the audience with his project on ‘Gorlov Turbines’. M.Haseeb Kazmi awed the audience with his exciting project on “Semi active prosthetic knee” and M.Zarrar Mumtaz masterfully showed how he worked on the topic “translating futility into utility.”

Finally the moment had arrived for the judges to reveal their results and each one of them admitted that the competition was getting tougher and tougher by the year. The final standings were as follows:
Winner: Junaid Ahmed
Runner-Up: Haseeb Kazmi
2nd Runner-Up: Zarrar Mumtaz

One of the judges was invited to share his thoughts on the event. He congratulated every participant and winners for their remarkable performance and then shared some invaluable advice on presentation skills. This acted as a great source of inspiration and learning for the participants and organizers. The judge also thanked the organizers for doing a great job of conducting an event of this stature smoothly. The event concluded with the closing ceremony at the Seminar Hall of SMME.
