The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, ImechE is an independent professional association and a learned society, representing Mechanical Engineers globally. There are 6 student chapters of ImechE in Pakistan, one of them being the NUST Student Chapter. IMechE NSC’s motto is to take academic and industrial collaboration one step forward and aims to bridge the trust gap that exists between academic institutions and industry. From conducting practical projects and design challenges for all the students of NUST, to arranging motivational speeches of engineers and providing a platform for the engineering students to bring forward their ideas, ImechE NSC does it all!
This year’s Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE) Nationals was held at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME), NUST Islamabad. The national event was named in the memory of Jibran Khalid, who established the first student chapter of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in Pakistan. SOfE is a trademark event of IMechE which is conducted at various levels. Students first compete at their individual student chapters. The winners then qualify for the zonal level of the competition. The top three position holders from each zone then battle it out at the SOfE Nationals to secure a spot for the SOfE South Asia. Many esteemed guests from the industry as well as officials from IMechE Pakistan attended the event. Mr Waseem Bhatti, Head of Manufacturing and Maintenance at Millat Tractors Limited Islamabad was invited as the chief guest for the event. This year there were two separate heats.
